Arizona gives you 30 questions and needs 80% — that is 24 correct, with six to spare. Signs are the section you can make nearly perfect in an evening, which is the cheapest way to bank those marks before you sit the real thing.
Our questions describe signs in words rather than showing pictures. Identify one from its shape, color and purpose without seeing it and you have learned the system rather than a set of images.
This quiz uses 25 questions and 20 to pass, applying Arizona’s own 80 percent bar to a shorter signs-only test.

Two Arizona hazards the signs actually mean
Dust storms. Visibility can go from clear to nothing in seconds. The correct response is counterintuitive: pull completely off the pavement, stop, turn off all your lights including the hazards, and take your foot off the brake pedal.
Leaving lights on is what causes the pile-ups. A following driver sees taillights, assumes they mark the travel lane, and steers straight at you.
Washes and dips. Depth markers beside a dry wash are not decoration. Monsoon rain fills them fast, and moving water carries vehicles away at surprisingly shallow depths. Turn around rather than trying to judge it.
Why signs are worth an evening here
Arizona publishes both exam numbers plainly: 30 questions and 80% to pass, so 24 correct with six to spare. Signs questions are the ones you should be answering in seconds, which leaves your thinking time for the rules and alcohol questions.
If you are under 18 you take the whole written test at home through a parent’s AZ MVD Now account, so there is no queue and no pressure — but also no examiner to explain anything. Knowing the signs cold is the difference.
