Arkansas Road Signs Test 2026 – Free Practice Quiz

Arkansas does not publish how many questions its knowledge exam contains or what score passes it, so nobody can tell you how much of it is signs. What is knowable is that the shape and color system is national, and that it is the section you can make nearly perfect with one evening of work.

Our questions describe signs in words instead of showing pictures. If you can name a sign from its shape, color and purpose without seeing it, you have learned the system rather than a set of images.

This quiz pulls 20 questions at random and scores you at 16. That format is ours, not the state’s.

Learn the system, not the pictures

Shape and color carry meaning on their own, which is why a sign still works when it is faded, dirty or half covered in snow. Learn the scheme and you can read signs you have never encountered.

Shapes

  • Octagon — stop, and only stop
  • Downward triangle — yield
  • Diamond — a warning about what is ahead
  • Pentagon — school zone or crossing
  • Round — railroad crossing ahead
  • Crossbuck — the crossing itself
  • Pennant, on the left — a no passing zone begins

Colors

  • Red — stop or prohibit
  • Yellow — general warning
  • Orange — work zone, where Arkansas fines double
  • Fluorescent yellow-green — people crossing
  • Green — direction and distance
  • Blue — motorist services
  • Brown — parks and historic sites
  • White with black text — the law
One rule settles most marking questions. Yellow separates traffic moving in opposite directions; white separates lanes moving the same way. Solid restricts crossing, broken permits it when safe.

Three Arkansas details worth carrying into the exam

  • The yield sign has teeth here. Failing to obey one can bring a fine of up to $1,000 and a 180-day license suspension
  • Work zone fines double only when both conditions hold — workers present and warning signs posted in advance. One without the other is not enough
  • Signal 100 feet ahead of a turn. If the turn comes after an intersection, wait until you are through the intersection to signal, so nobody expects you to turn into it

Why our format and not the state’s

Arkansas publishes neither a question count nor a pass mark. Rather than repeat a figure we cannot source, this quiz uses 20 questions scored at 16 and labels it as ours everywhere the number appears.

The practical advice follows from that: aim well above any plausible threshold, because you genuinely cannot know how much margin you have on the day.

Next steps

Signs reward a short, focused effort more than any other part of the exam. Once you are consistently above 18 out of 20 here, move to the full Arkansas practice test, which covers licensing stages, the demerit point system, distances and road rules.
